Goonies Question
Last night I found out that my brother's girlfriend has never seen The Goonies. She said she hasn't seen anything from before she was born in 1985. That is a bit fishy because The Goonies came out in June 1985. She may have been born after June. Not that it matters...
Then I found out that a woman I work with has never seen it either! Incon(th)eivable! (to quote a different movie)
Anyway, here's my question. Do you think it's possible for a grown adult person to watch The Goonies for the first time and enjoy it? I love the movie, but I grew up with it. I'm thinking that an adult might find it extremely cheesey and stupid.
These people must watch it though, just so they get the pop culture references and the various quotes that people say. Rock-ee road? Chunk? Hey you guuuuuuuys!

Arizona – Trip 2
I'm in Arizona again. I came out here Friday night and I am going home today (Monday). I called in sick today, cough cough. I fly out of here around 2 or 3. Something like that.
I am writing this from my old job's Chandler office. I got to see everyone in their "new" work environment. It's very quiet in here. It's almost as if there isn't anyone else here. I hear various mouse clicking so I know there are others here. It's all so business like. Henry has jury duty so I did not get to see him. I can picture him sitting in the jury box rubbing his head and hopping up and down in his seat. I did get to see Mon who I haven't seen in years, and met some people whose names I recognized. Martin claims that I am legendary here. I don't know why though.
During this trip, we went for an hour and half drive throught he mountains, stopped at Dairy Queen, and then turned around and came back. I went to dinner at the Roaring Fork with Webby, Pere, and Lisa. Henry, Martin, and Eileen were supposed to come but forgot. It was really good. They are famous for their green chili mac and cheese so I got it. It was really good and had a mild kick. I had a really good time at dinner, and had a huckleberry mararita. It was very tart but good. I liked the atmopshere there too. It made me feel like I was at the Wilderness Lodge in DisneyWorld.
Webby and Pere recommended that we see the Pima Air and Space Museum, so we did that Sunday. It was pretty cool. We took the tram tour around the grounds. About a quarter of the way through the tour the tram got a flat tire, and the tour guide had to walk back to the hangar to get a different tram. There were so many weirdos on our tour, which gave me something else to look at. Definitely interesting. We took a scenic route home from Pima, which took us up throught the mountains and on a dirt road. We were going to go to the drive-in, because I haven't been to one in a long time, but by the time we ate dinner it was too late. I was going to go swimming but I was too tired. My body was telling me that it's three hours later then what it was!
Henry just showed up. They didn't pick him to be a juror.
I'm headed off to lunch and then to the airport. I finagled my tickets so that I can fly First Class home. Nice! On the way out here I got an exit row seat (the one without a seat in front of me), and the people next to me got up and moved when they closed the door. I had the whole row to myself! It was really nice. I laid down and made myself as comfortable as I possibly could.
I watched the last two Lost epiosdes, and last week's BSG on the flight out here. After that my Ipod was almost dead! WTF! I thought they lasted DAYS on one charge! (I guess that's if you are playing music). I have a ton of stuff to watch on the way home, and my Ipod better not die or I will be pissed! I might have to READ or, God forbid, sit quietly with my thoughts!
Anyway, it's about time for me to go. Thank you to Jeff for "letting" me use his pc while he was out of the office. I swear I didn't screw it up too much. Tell him to call 5555 for help!
When I get home I have to write about The Broad Street Run last Sunday. I keep forgetting to. It's pretty funny.

Star Wars
I went to see the Star Wars exhibit at the Franklin Institute last weekend. It was neat. They had a lot of models used during filming, and a number of costume and droids. Luke's landspeeder was there. It is small! There must be bigger ones out there. I'm not sure how anyone could have fit in it. They had a destroyer droid there, you know, the ones that roll around in a ball and have shield generators. It definitely was intimidating! My favorite item there was the Millenium Falcon model. It was probably 5 foot wide, maybe bigger. I wanted to bring it home with me. It's my favorite ship in all of the movies. They were showing four and a half minute movie in a life-sized recreation of the Millenium Falcon cockpit. You had to get a ticket for that when you got there. You had to walk down a little hallway that was made to look like the inside of the Falcon. The movie was about space travel but it did have a few X-Wing fighters in it. It was kind of cool. It was fun just to sit in the cockpit.
The most amusing part of the exhibit were the people who were there. Weirdos! I swear I saw the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons. If you get a kick out of people watching, this was a feast for the eyes!
Nothing else exciting has been going on. Just working, and wishing I wasn't.

BSG TOMORROW!
Battlestar Galactica returns to television tomorrow night on SciFi at 10 pm!
If you go to the website, there are a couple of videos to watch. One of them will get you caught up on the past three seasons in just 8 minutes. The lady narrating sounds bored as hell, and some of her comments were funny. It's funny how they stripped the show down to 8 minutes. Obviously it's missing a lot, but it touches on the major plot points.
There are two other videos that they showed on SciFi last Friday about the show and the buzz around it. It's worth watching, especially if you are at work and looking to kill some time.
Set your TiVo!

Long time – quick post
Sorry it's been so long since my last post. I have neglected my blog! Working 40 hours a week totally blows. It eats up all my free time. So sick of it. When I get home I am beat and don't want to even look at my pc. I'm sitting at work watching the clock and figured I would take a few minutes to write on here.
I went to Arizona two weekends ago. I got there (Tempe) Friday night/Saturday morning at 12:30 am. Got up Saturday at 7:30 and got ready and went to Sedona for the day. We took a Pink Jeep tour of Broken Arrow and the Scenic Rim. It was awesome. I have never done those things in my Jeep. Then we got back from Sedona and had to immediately go to dinner with Caroline and a bunch of people. Then after dinner we went to a comedy club and saw Craig Shoemaker. Then we went to the bar across the street and closed it. Then I got back to hotel around 3:30 am or so, crashed, and got up at 9 to get ready to go home. I went to lunch at Houston's in Scottsdale (I think) and got dropped off at the airport around 1 for my 3 pm flight. It was a jam packed weekend. I was BEAT when I got home. What made it worse was the we turned the clocks ahead an hour while I was in Arizona, and since they don't participate in Daylight Savings Time, it really screwed me up. I was tired the entire week. It's a long time spent on planes for literally one day there. It was totally worth it though. I had a great time. It was like the old times. I really like Paige too. She's a riot!
Battlestar Galactica returns April 4th!
It's time for me to leave! Yay! Happy Easter!

Cool site
This is a pretty cool site. I stumbled upon this site when I was trying to figure out the name of this old Japanese show I used to watch (The Space Giants). I spent the better part of last Friday watching old commercials and browsing the site. Worth checking out!
Some of the 'contributors' are terrible spellers. "Wasen't"? For Real? I think I learned how to spell "wasn't" in 5th grade, if not sooner. People are really dumb, especially on the internet.

Parents in denial
So I'm at work, which means I'm bored. I'm sitting here reading the news trying to kill some time before I go to the dentist, and I came upon this story.
This is my favorite part: "Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the back yard with two of his delinquent friends."
Please. Parents are ridiculous. They have no clue and think their children are perfect angels. Of course it wasn't his child's fault for smoking pot. It was his "delinquent" friends. Wake up! It was probably the kid's pot. He probably stole the money from the father to buy the pot. There is probably a huge stash of it upstairs under the kid's mattress! Christ he probably SELLS it. "innocent little boy" my ass.
Parents are ridiculous. They spoil their kids and create this cushy world where they get whatever they want, and never have any disappointments. They manipulate every aspect of the kid's life, from sports teams to friends. You didn't make the team? Let me go down to that school and complain and stomp around because no one says no to my little angel. You got in trouble? It's not your fault! It's your friends' fault, or the school's fault, or the cops are targeting the family. It's NEVER their child's fault.
These kids are not prepared for life. That's why you have 21 years old kids acting like 15 year olds. Because they lack the emotional maturity to deal with adult decisions. I mean, what is going to happen to these kids when the parents die? They are totally dependent on their parents, and the parents have raised them to be that way. Big spoiled brats. And what's worse is that they will go through life expecting everything to just magically happen for them. And when it doesn't, they become drug addicts and alcoholics, or depressed and popping pills, or end up in prison.
Great job parents!

Duh
So I looked down and realized that my socks are blue, not black as I thought they were when I put them on this morning.
Last night I was on my way to Sears and Kohl's at the Granite Run mall, and some dumb woman almost killed me! I was travelling in the left lane, which is the straight lane, and she was in the right lane, which is the right turn only lane, and she decides to go straight into my lane and totally cut me off. It was a close call; we're talking inches. I slammed on the brakes and laid on the horn. I blew the horn for about a minute, then I gave it a break. As I was about to turn into the parking lot, I laid on the horn again to make sure she knew I was pissed off. Stupid whore! Pay attention! I'm sure she didn't do it intentionally because there weren't any cars behind me or in front of me, and she wasn't driving aggressively. She just wasn't paying attention. Friggin' moron! It's hilarious to me right now, but last night I was pissed off!

Blade Runner 2
Well I went and saw Blade Runner Friday night at the Ritz. I enjoyed it. I don't really remember every detail of the previous releases, so I can't tell you what's different. All in all it's a good movie. It looked great, and was really loud in the theater as well, which was pretty cool.
The theater wasn't sold out like I thought it would be. It was like 80% full. A whole theater of weird, beret-wearing, Philly inner-city people. Bunch of sci-fi geeks and wanna-be film critics. After the movie they were all milling about discussing the use of shadows and camera angles and techniques, and how many seconds longer the scenes were than the previous cuts of the movie. They were all getting off hearing themselves talk. So much so that they were all trying to suck themselves off between sentences. I couldn't wait to get away from them. Can't you just watch a movie and enjoy it without analyzing it and otherwise annoying me?
**Spoiler alert!** Don't read anymore if you never saw the movie and are planning on seeing it! So now I'm going to analyze it (hold on, I'm trying to do myself...). When Rachael asks him if he's ever given himself the test, the camera lingers on her way too long. It was distracting. I'm sure it was intentional, but it felt weird. The unicorn thing bothers me. I would have never known that Decker was a replicant if Martin didn't tell me the significance of the origami unicorn. They show the unicorn early in the movie, and Decker is playing the piano, kinda lost in thought. Was that a daydream? I was kind of lost. They needed a litle more with the unicorn and I think I would have been able to piece it together. I always thought that the unicorn meant that Gaff (pimped out Adama) was at his apartment and could have killed Rachael but didn't, and was letting them get away because she was going to die anyway. Seriously. I had no idea what it really meant. I guess I'm not as sharp as I used to be. Though I did notice all the pictures Decker had on his piano. They were like the pictures the other replicants had on them. Maybe once Martin told me about Decker, that I was subconsciously looking for clues?
Harrison Ford looks so young in that movie. He's 65 now. 65!
I can't think of anything else right now. It's almost time for me to leave for the day!
It was definitely worth seeing in the theater. When will you have the chance again?

Blade Runner
It's been a couple weeks since the last post. Time flies when you work every damn day. I could probably post everyday from work, but I feel very exposed here (I'm at work right now!). Maybe I will. I always think of these really good things to rant about when I'm driving home or when I'm away from a computer. And by the time I am near a pc, I'm not inspired to write anymore, or my rage has subsided.
Anyway, I'm going to see Blade Runner tonight at the Ritz. I thought it would be cool to see a 25 year old movie on the big screen. It's the "Final Cut" which is supposed to be the director's definitive vision of the film. I think it's been cleaned up and remastered also. Blade Runner is currently number 103 on IMDB's Top 250. The DVD comes out on the 18th, and one edition of the DVD will contain all 3 versions of the film. I don't think I have seen every version yet. I have the Director's Cut at home, so I have seen that one. Hopefully it will be good.
I never thought I would have the chance to see it in the theater. I would like to buy a theater and show older movies on it. Have recliners and coolers and pretzel bites. And walls that block cell phone signals. And show movies like Aliens (of course), and the original Star Wars trilogy, and the Matrix, and Lord of the Rings, and countless other movies that I like. I guess that's the reason why people have home theaters with projectors and big ass screens. And recliners. And they don't have to get dressed to go see a movie, or even wear clothes at all! I should probably get a home theater.
I will let you know how it is if i don't get murdered in Philly. It's pretty freakin' cold outside, and hopefully it's too cold for the murderous thugs to be out murdering.
